SAFETY is our number 1 priority

Our commitment to providing each Wheels Up member with an exceptional flight experience begins with the foundation of our business – safety.
No question. No compromise.

Safety Management –the Wheels Up Way

Operators who are serious about safety have implemented Safety Management Systems (SMS) in their operations. SMS is a means to identify hazards, mitigate the risk associated with those hazards, collect safety data, and act on that data to improve the safety of the operation. Not only does Wheels up require the operators it uses to implement SMS, but we have also implemented our own SMS to monitor the safety performance of our operators.

Wheels Up sets the standards that operators must meet to fly our members. This includes the requirement that all pilots must hold an FAA Airline Transport Pilot license (the highest available) and hold a FAA First-Class Medical Certificate. The pilots assigned by Gama Aviation to the Wheels Up program have thousands of hours of experience, fly only one aircraft type, are FAA Type-Rated in their assigned aircraft, and receive full-motion simulator training at FlightSafety International two times per year.

Aircraft Selection

To create the safest program around, we started with one of the safest aircraft in the industry. The Beechcraft King Air 350i is the latest and most advanced version of one of the world’s safest and most reliable airplanes ever produced. Safety features of the King Air 350i include two Pratt and Whitney PT6A turbine engines, renowned for their superior safety, reliability, the Rockwell-Collins Pro-Line 21 Avionics package, an advanced color weather radar system with extended range for tactical weather avoidance, the XM Graphical Weather System, a Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II) and an Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS).

The Cessna Citation Excel/XLS is a legendary business jet known for its comfort, performance and reliability. Powered by Pratt and Whitney PW-545A turbofan engines, the Excel/XLS has the ability to outperform similar mid-size business jets in takeoff, climb, cruise and landing. Additional Safety features of the Citation Excel include the Honeywell Primus-1000 Avionics package with the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), an advanced color weather radar system, a Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and an Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS).
